Dimensions and Categories

A DivePlan, because it can include multiple models and cBases, can contain a large number of dimensions. To help you organize dimensions, DiveMaster includes a Categories feature. Note that you can also use DiveMaster to configure categories for a single cPlan or cBase file.

A category identifies a set of dimensions that are logically related and should be displayed together in the DiveMaster or Diver client consoles. When added to the DiveMaster console, a category appears as a folder with a "+/-" sign for expanding or collapsing the contents of the category. Categories appear in the DiveMaster console in the order that you add them, but you can reorder categories by:

  • Right-clicking a category name and selecting an option
  • Dragging and dropping a category name
  • Using a shortcut key combination

NOTE: You cannot place summaries into category folders.

By default, a category called _hidden appears in DiveMaster, but not the Diver console. When creating or editing a DivePlan, you can move all core dimensions not intended for diving into the _hidden category so that they are not available to Diver users. Additionally, if any dimensions have not been explicitly assigned to a category, DiveMaster moves these dimensions into the Other Dimensions category. Diver removes the Other Dimensions category if you assign all of the dimensions in the DivePlan to a category.

DiveMaster, however, retains Other Dimensions in the event that you decide to uncategorize a dimension by moving it into the Other Dimensions folder.

The Categorize feature supports the following actions:

  • Promote an Info Field to a Dynamic Dimension by dropping it into a category
  • Use multi-select (Ctrl+) to group dimensions listed in Uncategorized and All Columns and move them into a console category using the Ctrl+Insert key combination or drag-and-drop
  • Use drag-and-drop to remove dimensions from a category and drop them into Uncategorized or All Columns
  • Right-click a categorized dimension to open a context menu enabling you to add a new category or to move or delete the selected dimension
