What Is a Guest User?
A DivePort guest user does not require logon credentials or a DiveLine license. As an administrator, you can grant non-DiveLine users read-only access to specified pages in your portal. You can customize these pages using non-DiveLine portlets (therefore, any DiveLine-protected data does not display). Guest users can view instances of the DI web portlets: HTML, image, link, and web page. They can also view the logon and document manager portlets.
NOTE: Typically, guest users cannot access the portal media library. To ensure that guest users can see them, place images in the webdata/<instance>/customizations/images/ folder and use the $(IMAGES_URI) macro.
DivePort does not impose limits on the length of guest user sessions, nor the number of guest users or the number of source addresses. However, DiveLine and Apache Tomcat software might impose limits.
The most common use of the guest user account is to present welcome pages or a home page, but other uses are supported.
There is also an option to arrange for a special license that enables a DiveLine user to act as a default guest user. With this special license, a visitor to the portal can view pages in the guest environment, and view DiveLine data with the permissions of the designated guest user. For more information, contact Dimensional Insight Support.
NOTE: If the guest user is a DiveLine user, they cannot be a DiveLine administrator.
