What is a Spectre Build?

A Spectre Build script is a configuration file that defines a data source from which to create a cBase. Spectre can create a Build script from the data itself. Opening this script with the Spectre Build editor shows the defaults and assumptions that are made about the data. The Build script indicates the location of the input data, how to process it, and where to write it out.

A Spectre build script, developed by hand or by using the GUI editor is created and saved to automate the task of building a cBase.

Version 7.1 introduces the Build Flow Editor, a more robust GUI for Spectre Build. This GUI helps you select attribute column properties and transform data by gradually adding and configuring a series of objects, similar to the construction of a Visual Integrator (VI) script.

A Spectre Build can include calculations for new columns, sorts, filters, rotates, lookups, concats, and joins. As such, it can be used to perform many ETL tasks formerly limited to VI. The Spectre engine, using a binary form of the data, processes data faster than VI which uses the data in string form.

NOTE: You can set your Workbench preferences to launch ProDiver after a successful build. See Setting Workbench Preferences.
