DiveTab PC Update Manager

DiveTab PC Update Manager ensures that DiveTab PC users have up-to-date software. With Workbench, you can set the minimum version of DiveTab PC that can connect to the DiveLine server, as well as suggest that users update DiveTab PC if their version is earlier than the recommended version.

NOTE: The DiveLine server administrator must place the DiveTab installer for the update in the \dl-dataroot\download directory on the DiveLine server.

To configure the DiveTab PC Update Manager:

  1. In Workbench, click Tools > Server Settings.

    The General tab displays.

  2. Under Options, click the Miscellaneous chevron to expose additional settings.

  3. Click the DiveTab PC Update Manager button.

The ClosedEdit DiveTab Update Settings dialog box opens.

  4. Select the Enable DiveTab Updating check box to enable the feature.

  5. Select a Major Version and Point Release. For example: 1.5(40). If the point release includes a decimal, enter it manually. For example: 40.3.

NOTE: Be careful when setting the version number because DiveTab PC uses the same version number as the iPad version, which currently is 1.5. The point release number is the same as the full Diver Platform release. The installer file name uses the Diver Platform release number.

  6. Indicate the Enforcement option. Select Mandatory to require upgrade to use DiveTab PC, or select Suggested if the upgrade is optional.

  7. Click the File Path browse button.

The ClosedSelect File dialog box opens directly to the download directory (\dl-dataroot\download), but the path is not visible. The download directory is the only directory where you can choose the update file. You cannot navigate to any other directory on the DiveLine server.

  8. Select the target DiveTab installer, and click Select in the Select File dialog box.

Alternatively, you can enter the target DiveTab installer name directly in the File Path box in the Edit DiveTab Update Settings dialog box. The name must start with a forward slash (/).

  9. Click OK in the Edit DiveTab Update Settings dialog box.

  10. Save the Server Settings tab.

When the update manager is configured on the DiveLine server, the DiveTab PC client on the user's computer checks the client version. If an appropriate client version is not in use, the user receives a message dialog box stating that a newer version of DiveTab PC is available.

The message dialog box changes depending on the enforcement setting:

When the user clicks Upgrade, DiveTab PC closes, an installation wizard dialogs display on the screen while the application is upgraded. When the upgrade completes, the DiveTab PC logon screen again displays. After the user logs in, DiveTab PC displays a message indicating that the version is updated. If the update fails, DiveTab PC aborts.
